SteamID vs SteamID3 vs SteamID64

All three always point to the same Steam account -only the notation changes. Steam, and the tools around it (BattleMetrics included), use all three depending on context, so it's worth being able to recognize them.

SteamID (or SteamID2)

The classic format: STEAM_0:0:12345678. It dates back to the Half-Life/Counter-Strike era and still shows up in server logs and some older tools.

SteamID3

An intermediate format: [U:1:24691356]. Mostly seen in developer consoles and some server plugins.

SteamID64

The most common one today: a 17-digit number, e.g. 76561197984957084. It's what the Steam API, BattleMetrics and pretty much every modern tool use -this one included.

It's calculated by adding a fixed base number (76561197960265728) to the account's identifier -that's why every SteamID64 starts the same and only the last digits change.

Converting between formats

No need to do the math by hand: the SteamID converter switches between all three instantly.
