What is Steam name history

Steam keeps every username an account has ever used and shows it publicly on its profile (the "also known as" dropdown) -unless the owner sets their profile to private.

Why it's worth checking

If someone changes their name right after getting reported, or uses names that are wildly different from each other (one serious, one clearly meant to blend in), the history brings that into the open. It also helps recognize someone coming back to a server under a new name.

Its limits

It only records the Steam username -not the name someone uses inside a specific Rust match, which can be different and isn't stored by Steam at all.

Put this into practice

Rust Player Tracker follows players live, flags name changes, and gives you a cheater-risk score before you trust anyone -free to start, no card required.
