How to tell if your Steam account was hacked

If you see activity on your account you don't recognize, act as fast as you can -Steam lets you regain control, but it can't undo a VAC ban that landed while it was compromised.

Signs something's off

  • A VAC ban or game ban you don't remember earning.
  • Inventory items or skins that have disappeared.
  • New friends you didn't add, or messages sent that you didn't write.
  • A Steam Guard email confirming a password or email change you didn't ask for.

What to do

  • Change your Steam password AND your linked email's password -in that order: if the email is also compromised, changing only the Steam one isn't enough.
  • Turn on Steam Guard (two-factor verification) if you hadn't already.
  • Check steamcommunity.com/my/tradehistory for any trades you don't recognize.
  • Contact Steam Support (help.steampowered.com) to regain access and report the fraud.

You can check your own SteamID

You can search your own SteamID on Steam Profile to see exactly what public information your account is showing right now.
